The making of woven cloth is at the core of my artistic practice. My investigation into weaving is fueled by the qualities inherent in their structure, design and production. I use a floor loom to create woven pieces inspired by the relationship between the warp and the weft of fabric. Traditionally, the weft is the element of a woven cloth that is primary. In my work I have reversed these roles and made the warp dominant by constructing it with multiple bright colors and designing the weft to be very minimal in pattern and neutral in color. I want to showcase the side of a woven structure that is not normally experienced but is just as essential to the construction of the fabric as the weft. These works are meant to be experienced by the viewer through not only sight, but touch. I have suspended these works from the ceiling at the viewers height so they may view all elements of the fabric, as well as experience it through touch. Though often under examined, the feel of fabric is very important as it is essential to the understanding of the piece through texture and weight of the material.
